How do you use AI to convert invoices to Excel?

To convert invoices to Excel with AI, have an extraction tool read each invoice into fields (vendor, dates, tax, totals and line items), export a CSV, and open it in Excel through Data, then From Text/CSV. Excel can't read a PDF's layout, so the extraction step is what turns a document into rows.
1. Send the invoices in
Upload PDFs or photos, forward them to your InvoiceJet address, or send them through the API. A scanned stack in one PDF is split into one record per invoice, so 30 bills become 30 rows.
2. Review what's flagged
Each field comes back with a confidence level. Check the flagged ones before you export, so your spreadsheet starts from confirmed numbers.
3. Export a CSV
Choose one row per invoice for a payables list, or one row per line item for spend analysis and pivot tables. Filter by period or client tag first.
4. Open it in Excel without losing data
Double-clicking a CSV lets Excel guess every column type, and it guesses badly. Invoice number 00123 becomes 123. A 16-digit reference turns into scientific notation. Dates can flip between day and month.
Use Data, then From Text/CSV instead. In the preview, set invoice number and reference columns to Text, check the date format, and load. The values arrive exactly as extracted.
Common questions
Can Excel open a PDF invoice directly?
Not usefully. Excel reads tables, not document layouts. Power Query can pull some tables out of digital PDFs, but it can't read scans or photos, and it doesn't check the numbers.
Does InvoiceJet export .xlsx files?
No. It exports CSV, which Excel opens directly. Save as .xlsx from Excel if you need to.
Can I get one row per line item?
Yes. The line-item export gives each line its own row, with the bill number, vendor and dates repeated on every row.
